This is a still from my music video which was shot a couple of moths ago. As you can see its an over the shoulder shot from the child looking up to the 'Abusive, Alcoholic Father.' I showed my teacher the latest update of the music video and unfortunately, I have to cut the dad raising him arm up to the child out. Due to the Child Abusive Connation's it held, The exam board may believe it is not suitable there I had to remove this bit from my music video.

I have also been heavily inspired by 'The Arctic Monkeys and particularly their digipak for 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not.' This is a interview from the man who is pictured on the front of this album and how the Arctic Monkeys got him to take the shots. (https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2016/apr/22/arctic-monkeys-chris-mclure-poses-cover-debut-album-2006)    My idea is very similar to this and the overall digipak is simple yet effective

Although the genre that 'Frank Ocean' portrays is one of rap and hip hop I have been heavily influenced by his work. As you can see this is a album cover for his new album 'Blond.' It features a very plain background and a photo of the artist with the album name on the front. As said in the blog posted on 28th February mine is going to be very similar.I will post a photo very soon of my progress regarding my digipak.

Related imageAs mentioned in the blog post featured (Blog Explaining Problems ) I was having some serious problems with my editing software, MoviePlusX6. I have overcome this problem with some advice I read from a professional online. He has explaining how to edit with Proxy Files turned off allowing the film to now be smooth and not look armature. I believe because I now have a smooth video I can start work on  my auxiliary products of Digipak and magazine advert. I hope that the overall product will achieve high marks.

Drafting and Planning

As said in previous blog post I am going to explaining the idea for my digipak back.  My front cover features a picture of my artists therefore my back is going to show a glimpse of my video. I am going to feature the 'abusive father' with the whiskey shown in the video and him passed out. This shows how lost he is without the son from the video. I will include red text to show a connection with the front of the digipak which will also stand out against the background. I will also use the stereotypical codes and conventions like the record company and bar code to make it look profession. I think this is a very good idea and will fit the indie genre well.

Image result for digipaks amI have started to plan my Digipak ideas. As my artist features in my music video I am going to include him on the magazine. For the front I will have a red background with the stereotypical Lucas Graham logo on it. It will then feature of picture of the 'band' on the front cover who will fit the indie genre well, I will include stereotypical indie genre conventions such as he indie clothing 'Thrasher' and Smoking. I will include photos of this shoot in further blog posts and have been heavily inspired by the Arctic Monkeys AM album therefore the pictures will be in black and white to contrast the red background. This is my idea for the front cover of my digipak.

Related imageThis weeks I have experienced some trouble involving my project. As you know I have to create a music video and I choose the program Movie Plus 6. I have been encountering some problems regarding this program. When I try to 'render' the video to `ensure it is of a good quality and looks as professional as possible it has slowly became more choppy and unfortunately it is a problem which is hard to overcome. I have moved onto working on my Auxiliary product which is to create a digipak for my artists album. I will explain my ideas in different blog posts while I, with the help of my teacher, try to overcome the rendering problem.

I have now created a idea for the front cover of my digipak. It will feature 3 items which are shown in the music video. The child's letter, the mother's cigarettes and the dads bottle for whiskey. All shown below. It will then show text across the front of these items saying 7 Years in bold red writing

Drafting and Planning

As previously discussed in my last blog post I came up with an idea for the front cover of my digital. I have been thinking about more ideas for a digital which I can include in my final piece. I now need a photo for the inside and a picture for the back. Inside I was thinking about having a still from my music video for he child looking very sad and on his own. Then the photo on the back k would be him with his new family looking very happy. This will help to tell the story of video and also believe it has positive connotations of an inside music video. I will start work on my digipak soon. But I am trying to ensure that my second draft is good.

I completed my first draft of my music video and handed it in to the teacher so that I could receive some feedback. He said that there was some very positive footage which I had shot and that some of the cuts went well with th genre if an Indie music video. He said that it was good but needed to now be turned into a story. I will do this by ensuring that all the cuts that are made are made on the beat. Hopefully, when I hand the next draft in he will be pleased. Next week I am going to begin work on my digipak for the video as the final deadline for the whole project is on the 7th

This is my first draft of my music video. As you can see its current state it is a very basic edit. It have used a limited amount of cuts. I only used fade cuts and straight cuts at the moment. Some of these cuts are also off the beat so I will re edit these to ensure that they look professional. Secondly, Some of the shots are very shaky  therefore I am seriously considering re filming. I believe for a first draft it was quite successful as it clearly has a narrative that can be followed but at the moment it may look poorly shot and very immature. This video below is one which i was heavily inspired by. As you can there is very little shaking and clearly a tripod has been used they also use a wide variety of shots therefore I have tried to imitate this.

I want to show a full range of skills in my editing. I will do this by adding a variety of different effects which include some featured in this video. Due to the amount of times I filmed I for each shot I now have a large amount of film to choose from featuring different angles and types of shots which I can put together using editting. I particularly like like idea of a wipe transition. I think it shows yours skills well but also adds a cool effect to the video. I have used a lot of jump cuts in my scenes as well as fades therefore I think a wipe transition would change my video round and break its own a little bit more.

Drafting and Planning

As I have been focusing mainly on the emitting process due to the final draft needing to submitted in one week I have also been thinking that the characters which I created where somehow not a bit a vague therefore i don't think the video will make sense unless I show that the Grandad character is the little boy but grown up. After much consideration on how to show this I decided on two different things which make it look like he is reminiscing on his life. Firstly, All the shots featuring the Grandad will be in black and white showing how he is now older. I am also going to use a ripple effect suggesting time is now going backwards

Drafting and Planning

I previously mentioned how to ensure that I achieve top marks that I would have to use a variety of different camera angles and shots. After filming my video I firmly believe I have achieved this well. 3 different shots which I have used are :

  •  Over The Shoulder Shot
  • Tracking Shot
  • Establishing Shot
Tracking Shot This shot will be used for the last shot in my piece, shot 31 as I follow two characters walking down the street

Over the Shoulder Shot
I will use an over the shoulder shot for shot number 22. where we see the father abusing the little child. It will be over the shoulder of the child.
Establishing Shot
I will use an establishing shot to shoe Clevedon Pier to give the audience an idea of setting and location and a feel to the mode of the scene it will be used for shot number 18

Lucy Spraggan Tea and Toast
This song has a very similar beat and flow to the song which I am making my project around. If you listen you can hear it also has a very powerful meaning behind it and make the audience think.
I was heavily inspired by parts of this video. I'm most of it the lead singer is flicking through her old photos Album which is where I got the idea to show the Grandad reviewing his life while looking at pictures. Lucy Spraggans video uses alot of lip syncing and I do not use any but overall I have been heavily inspired by this video.

You can clearly see that I have a variety of shots even from just one shoot. There is only 12 shots which needed to be filmed therefore I believe I have chosen the best ones to ensure that I put the most realistic and professional shots in my video. I have to ensure that the shots were not shaky or blurry. I have to also follow media rules such as the 180 degree rule to ensure the audience were not thrown off and lastly demonstrate a wide variety for different shots which allowed me to show joyfully mage of media skills and techniques.

I am now deep into the Editing process. I believe I am currently on track  with the deadline fast approaching. I have nearly edited all on the shots from shot 1 (Clevedon.) I used a variety of shots and cuts such as. Fade Cuts and Straight Cuts. I believe I have demonstrated a large amount of shots which I will talk about in my next blog. I have been heavily inspired by a variety of films for my cuts. Edgar Wright who directed films like Hot Fuzz uses a variety for different original cuts. This is an ideal example of snappy cuts which I would like to use.

This is a variety of different examples of Indie Digipaks. As you can see they all mostly follow similar codes and conventions. They are all mostly either black and white or show very minimalistic colour apart from a few. This may because indie artists mainly believe most about the music than the artwork therefore do not try to get there album to stand out a such as others do for example the pop genre mostly use bright colours like yellow because they are very commercial. As you can see from the image below of Katy Perry's Album.

As my moving image product also requires that I make a digipak for my artist I have recently been looking into a variety of different ones which I think I may be able to take inspiration from. As you can see I featured The Arctic Monkey's. They are artist which I am going to be inspired be throughout. They have a clear theme throughout. Smoking is a predominant one. Smoking fits the indie genre therefore that is one reason why they may of use this. As you can see the front cover he is taking a drag. The actually CD features a variety for cigarettes ends. The back of the digital shoes the male rubbing his eye due to getting smoke in it.

Due to my cast being very reliable I checked my footage and unfortunately had to retake some shots. As you can see from my storyboard the last couple of shots featured the 'Grandad' character and the 'Granny' Character. The shots were shaky and didn't show my full capability. Luckily, these were shots from the Birmingham shoot so didn't have ti go all the way to Clevedon to redo my shots
I had to retake shots 28, 29 and 30

Drafting and Planning

I have now completed my filming and there are some still images from a variety of shots I took over the filming process. As you can see the the location is ideal for the scene which I was aiming to create. Once I start to piece all my different shots together I believe it will look like a realistic indie music video.

I believe that I have all the things which I may need for my media project put into a list ready for today's filming. I am filming for 12-4 because I think the weather will be gloomy which sets the mood perfectly for my video. Personally, I believe once I have filmed all the shots for the Birmingham shoot. I can they start the Editing process which I believe is the hardest part. I have chosen today to film due to the weather settling the sad monotone scene who h I want to portray in the Birmingham Shoot.

Drafting and Planning

In the blog completed on the 11th January, I mentioned that I will be using the Editing software Movie Plus X6. Since then I have encountered some problems regarding this process. All the files which I have filmed were not supported and therefore all crashed. I had to then transfer all the files to my teachers laptop and then he had to change them to a file which was supported within MoviePlus. I also had some difficulty organising and separating some shots which I had filmed. This set me back some time therefore I will stay behind to ensure I stay on schedule. I am planning on filming my second shoot tomorrow therefore will have to edit it all together. I believe this is a minor set back but will allow me to have all the filming out of the way and have nearly a month to prepare for my editing

Drafting and Planning

The first draft of my piece isn't til 17th February therefore to ensure I reach this deadline I am going to try to start my editing process. I will be using Serif, Movie Plus x6 to edit. I believe this will be ideal for me due to the preliminary task we did at the start of the year using this software and explore techniques such as the 180 degree rule. It will also be the most accessible program to me due to now having a laptop and the software being installed on the school computers. Overall,I think I will be ready for the deadline.

Drafting and Planning

I have now finished filming all the components which I could do for the shoot which is in Clevedon. As you can see from this previous blog there is two separate shoots so next week on Saturday the 14th January I will complete the Birmingham Shoot. For now I will review all the footage in which I have shot and chose the shots in which I want to keep and use for my video. I will them name all these shots and put them in an order which is easy to interpret. This will prepare me and ensure that I am organized and ready for the Editing process. As you can see from the picture shown below I think I have completed all the necessary things needed stated in pre production.

Drafting and Planning

Today is the day in which I am planning on filing the first half of my music video. As you can see from this picture the weather is looking ideal for the mood which I am trying to portray in my music video. The cast I have chosen to film also live in Clevedon. I am hoping that this means that my video can be taken time and effort to ensure that it looks professional. Overall, I think that I now have all the things needed to film.

Drafting and Planning

After discussing the dates I want to film in my previous blog post (http://paddyhickeya2media.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/organisation_22.html ) I have now decided to bring my filming forward to the dates:

  • 7th January 2017
  • 14th January 2017
This is due to the optimum filming potential being fore filled on this dates. This refers to to a variety of reasons allowing my me to reach my full filming capability's. These are:

  • The weather being right allowing my to set the mood for the piece well
  • Travel- Allowing me to get a lift to Clevedon without a problem or a time limit
  • Cast- The cast can all be present for any extra shots needed.
  • Prepared- Due to my high organisational skills I now feel I am ready to begin filming without feeling rushed.
As you can see the weather is now ideal for the shots and mood in which I want to portray in my video.

As my blog post on costumes for the Clevedon cast was posted about a week ago I wanted to ensure that these costumes were appropriate. To do this I texted one of my friends 'Molly' for a second hand opinion. As you can see I want to see if it followed the codes and conventions of  and Indie music video therefore suggested a music video I was heavily inspired by named Emily's Heart by Jamie t. I was very happy with her response therefore I will follow though with the costume ideas in which I came up with.

Organisation

After a large variety of organisation I think I am now ready to begin my filming. I create lots of different lists which allows me to ensure that when the day of shooting comes I am prepared and ready and get all the shots I need. Some lists I have created have been:

  • Shot List
  • Props List
  • Character List
  • Character profile
  • Storyboards
I think that all these combined will allow me to show my large range of techniques, angles and shots to ensure the moderator can see I have used media skills and techniques well throughout. These are some examples of lists I have created. As you can see they are very detailed and also clearly set out so that I am not concerning about worried about what shots comes next when I start filming.

Drafting and Planning

This is my Call Sheet. It features all the information needed for both shoots which I will be filming. As you can see I think this will be very helpful because it gives me all the information such as cast needed, location, props, weather, the shots I am filming and how to shoot them. When it comes to going to Clevedon I can look over this sheet to ensure I get all I need it one shoot because I am reliant of other people for my video.
