Costume from Birmingham Cast

Image result for peak capImage result for old man coat

This is the costume for Jim Hickey who is playing the Grandad. As you can see it is very stereotypical and representative for this age of people.

Image result for tracksuit chavThis is the costume which I want my Abusive father played by Dom Hickey to wear. I have chose this because it portrays Lower Class and is associated with violence.

Image result for chav women

For the abusive mother costume I wanted to portray her as a chavvy women who think she is above everyone therefore chose this outfit.

Image result for Grandmother outfit

For the grandmother, It will be similar to the grandad as they are 'married.' It will also be representative.

This is the weather forecast for Saturday the 21st January 2017. This is the day that I am planning on filming my shots which are shot in Birmingham. This is a wide variety of shots from 1-30. It features most of actors in my video. Therefore the weather for this is ideal for the vibe and genre which I wanted to portray. As you can see the ideal times to film would be from 10AM to 3PM. I think this will be perfect for my filming and therefore I have chosen to film on these days.

Organisation

This is the weather forecast for one of the days which I want to film. This is on Sunday the 22nd January 2017. This is the daily forecast for Clevedon. As you can see the optimum point for the day will be 10AM til 3PM therefore I will film during these times. As it is a 1 hr 30 min drive away I will have to make sure that I get all my filming done during these hours because I am reliant on the actors being present and this is the only day they can all do.  I hope that all the filming goes well and I am confident that the weather will be OK and how I pictured my filming to go.

Drafting and Planning

Similar to a storyboard this is my shot list. As you can see from my last blog post I have matched each piece of the storyboard's seconds and transferred them onto these sheets. Not only does it give me a second by second breakdown I have decided which shot I want to use for each particular bit of the project but now I have an idea of location and want I want each character within the scene to be doing. This will be extremely beneficial for both me as I can see what I am doing while shooting but again the actors to give them guidance on what they should be doing.

Monday, 12 December 2016

Drafting and Planning

This is now my completed storyboard. This gives me a vague shot by shot breakdown of what I want each character to be doing within each shot. Each shot shown here is about 5-10 seconds long and I am hoping to including more shots of the day of filming so the narrative is not slow paced and boring. It also gives the actors an idea of how to portray the role. Due to many of the characters being friends and family they have little to no acting experience. This storyboard will allow to see which more their character is in and play them in that particular way.

This is evidence of my emailing my brother. He is going to be playing the abusive father in my music video for 7 Years by Lucas Graham. As you can see he had a very positive reply and along with him I also have my other cast members sorted. I have the 'stereotypical happy family' who said they will be more than happy to help me. Will all my cast now sorted I believe that I can now finalize my shot list and then  arrange a date for my filming taking everything such as weather and costume into account.

Organisation

As you can see from the planning sheet which we I have posted in the past, we set ourselves a target of reaching a certain point within our project which shows us where we need to be by the 15th December. Personally, I believe I am now ready to arrange my final date for my filming and then will start moving onto the editing process. The last thing I need to do before I start the filming is ensure I chose the right days. As the majority of the shooting will be done outdoors I am going to check the weather forecast to ensure that when I shoot I get the correct mood which I want to portray.

In class we have spoke about what is needed to be completed by a the date we have our first lesson after Christmas which is the 15th January. I helped with certain ideas. These were added to the pre production sheet.  This has been created in a order by date so i can see what to do by certain dates in an organised fashion  and in what order. From this list I have completed a plot/narrative, scripting and coming down to the final details such as props and camera shots and angles. I am going to focus on organisation  more because i have completed a lot research and planning therefore i think it is key to focus on what is going to happen next, i have got inspiration from music videos from you-tube and different A2 videos therefore i think it is important now to looking into camera shot and angles etc to put my moving image together; this although does not mean i will not continue with research and planning because if there is something that i am inspired by or i like i will talk about it.

After many different messages on the Social Media Site 'Facebook' with my cousins in a group chat we have finally arranged a date for the filming of m music video for 7 Years. I feel as though I am now organised to film and also by getting this date I will now get all the props needed to film and hire a camera off one of my teachers. After talking to my cousins (Who will play the happy family) in video I have been suggested a film called 'Moms List filmed in the location where I want go so I will look into the film to get some different shot ideas and location to make my film look professional.

This is the final storyboard (Include picture) which I have created. Hopefully, From this storyboard it includes the type of basic shot which I want to achieve also the timings of each shot and because I am not filming in my hometown I need to hope that I get the exact timings of each shot perfectly otherwise I will have to take all the actors back down to the film place and this will not be ideal as I want to start the editing.

Drafting and Planning

I have created a storyboard with a second by second breakdown on how the actual final piece is going to look. As we can see here I am using a variety of different shots and angles to get the best out of my music video. From the original we can see that he has gone for a much different narrative than mine but the shots which are used are similar to mine. I have changed the storyline from the original because I wanted to do something unique and hopefully show a different side to the song. I have researched different A2 music videos to this song and ones similar but none of them really have that close of a connection. Overall, my storyboard is going to help me when it comes to actual filming of my moving image project as it will help my remember how I waned the final piece to look.

Drafting and Planning

This is what I have created so that I can easily keep track of what I have done and what I need to do. This is basically my checklist for my whole entire video.
As you can see I am noting down:
  • Cast
  • Location
  • Costume
  •  Props
In my lesson tomorrow I am going to add to this checklist so that when I am get down to filming I have everything I need. I need to be this organised for my video because of the location. If I miss a certain shot or something goes wrong while filming I will not get the opportunely to do it again this is because of the high demands for the cameras which we are using and also of the long journey if would be to much to make my actors make that long journey again

Organisation

As my previous blogs show I am going to Clevedon to film my footage for my music video. I wanted to ensure that I am as organised as possible when shooting because I only have the camera for a limited amount of time. I have sent an email out to all the actors in which I wanted my music video to feature and also I am going to sort out their costumes very soon. I have been looking into the weather down there so that I can easily portray the things I want to. I have been looking into shooting on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th of December but I might have to rearrange that depending on other people shooting scheduled but also whether I feel prepared enough in myself because I only get one chance to film so it has to be good.

This is an example of me using my social media account Twitter of a way of getting feedback and maybe even ideas from some of my peers. I have received positive feedback from this tweet including:
"Great Idea Paddy, Think they will work really nicely together,"
I really hope that I can make the 2 work together. To achieve this I will use a wide variety of shots and angles and hope that it looks professional. I will use social media accounts like Twitter and Facebook to try to get feedback and ideas for the final piece.

I am going to use the song 7 Years by Lucas Graham for my music video with the story line. As shown in previous blogs (Previous Blog ) I was hoping to use the song Jamie T Emily's Heart but then after we did a pitch to my peers we realized that it wasn't appropriate. Therefore I have  used the same story but with a different song. As you can see I am going to start the story in a different way. As the song states throughout "Once I was 7 years old" I am going to add another characters. I am going to use a 60/70 year old man to start off the video. He will be shown looking back at a photo of his childhood and it will take him back. The end shot will then be him with a tear in his eye and emotional about the 'story from his childhood' which he has just relived. I believe the end result will be successful. As you can see from this A2 video of the same song I have been heavily influenced by they are completely different.

Drafting and Planning

As previously explained in my blogs, I was seriously considering on having the song 'MGMT -KIDS' as the backing track for my project. After some feedback from peers and my teacher. I have now decide to change the song. I have gone for something a bit more gentle. This song is '7 Years' by Lucas Graham. Originally, I was hoping to use the song Jamie T Emily's Heart and then was told that the lyrics and the story line in which I had created didn't match therefore as I liked the story line I looked for new songs and because I really enjoyed the storyboard in which I had created therefore I have found a song which I believe which match the story very well. I am going to ask people on the social media account 'Twitter' what they think of the story line and will post a photo of it along with the song which I have decided to put together I will post the result to my blog in the near future.

Research Into Similar Products

From my previous blog post we can clearly see that I have had to change my song idea. I looked into MGMT 'Kids' and found out that a similar artist to them is Tame Impala. An example of a Tame Impala Song is called 'Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.'  As you can hear it has a very mellow vibe and I like the general gist of the song. Although it would not fit with my music video. I think that the MGMT song 'Kids' will work well. Although, this is an animated video I like the idea and I might try to incorporate some animation into mine. I hope that I stick with the idea I created and incorporate new ideas as well as the old ones.

Research and Planning

This is a new song I am thinking of doing. It is called Kids. I think that due to the comments I received last lesson this song will fit more with the story line I have created. As you can see from the lyrics, if you look back to my previous blog post  my story line links to these lyrics. These lyrics clearly link to a child and therefore would link to the storyline. This also fits the indie genre in which I was thinking of doing. As I have already got a clear idea of my storyline I can hopefully incorparte the song into the story.

You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward him
Making momma so proud
But your voice is too loud
We like to watch you laughing
Picking insects off of plants
No time to think of consequences
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanting to be haunted
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanting to be haunted
The water is warm
But it's sending me shivers
A baby is born
Crying out for attention
Memories fade
Like looking through a fogged mirror

Drafting and Planning

After doing my presentation I received a variety of feedback regarding my song and my video idea. Overall I got some very good comments concerning my story line. They thought that the idea was unique and that it could work and that the editing would be hard but achievable. Then we start to talk about the song. I showed everyone which song I was considering which was Jamie T Emily's Heart. They like the pace and tone of the song but the Lyrics do not match. My story line is about a young child who has lost his parents whereas the song love and a girl. Therefore I am beginning to think of new song ideas which I will be posting about later. I am going to be sticking with the Indie genre and with having a song related to children.

Research and Planning

As mentioned in my presentation I am including a various amount of characters when filming my video. I will need 7 in total which are:

  • Artist- Young Individual Male between 17-24
  • Child (Star) - Young Boy 7-11
  • Child's Father- Middle Aged Male in his 30s
  • Child Mother- Middle Aged Female in her 30s
  • Happy Child- Young female -9-14
  • Happy Child's Mother- Mid 40s
  • Happy Child's Fathers Mid to Late 40s
I will use a lot of my family for casting and hopefully ensuring that they suit the style which I want to portray. Although they don't have to be indie themselves they have to try to portray that within the video

Picture1These are some examples of Indie Digipaks. I am hoping to create my digipak based on these covers. As you can see most of them are plain colored and have similar features. I prefer the idea of having a image of something that is related to the album rather than the star. I will also use darker colours like black and white following the indie pop conventions for indie covers. I will use a picture because it links more closer to the stereotypical indie digipaks and can relate t the video and double page spread.

Research and Planning

This is a storyboard I have created for my idea. It includes all the different shots I will use and also gives a brief idea on what I want my final piece to look like. As you can see all the shots are fairly easy apart from the fade away I am hoping to use. This is where the child and mother are together and she will slowly fade out. I will have to use a lot of time to try and edit this shot. I will use the editing software called movie plus and hopefully it will look professional. I have not yet included the lip syncing but over filming I will film some and add it here where I feel necessary. Overall this script will be very useful as it gives me a stop by shot breakdown and make the whole thing look realistic.

This is a transcript I have created for my music video. It gives me a step by step and second by second breakdown on what I am hoping to achieve in my video. As you can hear it fits in with the song lyrics and follow some on the lyrics to the action. For some of the instructions I have also included the shot I will use. I am hoping to get everything filmed in one week. With this plan it will make it a lot easier for me.

As previous mentioned I am hoping to film a music video for the song Emilys Heart by Jamie T. I am hoping to create a story line involving a son and mother and the mother has passed away. To show this I want to create a variety of scenes high with and without the mother and she will slowly dissolve  out of the shot. This will be very hard to edit therefore I have found and smartphone app called iMovie. It will allow me to fade the mother out of the shots. This will give the impression that the mother is fading out of his life which makes the very ever feel sympathetic towards the child. I will use a variety of these editing techniques to make the audience feel a certain way.

Along with the music video we have to create we also have to create a digipak for our artists CD to go in. This is and example from one of my favorite bands'The Arctic Monkeys.' They are a band within the indie pop genre. I believe the genre is captured outstandingly well though the simplistic design. The black and white theme throughout featuring no other colour is very plain yet very eye catching. As we can see the front cover is very recognizable and is now seen as a sort of symbol of the band. This is a photo of them playing g a music festive using this symbol. This album was released in late 2013.

This is also another digipak from Arctic Monkeys. As we can see the design is very different from the one in 2013. This was released in 2009. Cigarettes are the main theme and this is usually associated with the Indie Genre.

Lip Syncing
As we can see from this Jamie T If You Got The Money Video Lip Syncing is used frequently. I want to attempt to use it in my music video because it seems that a lot of Indie Pop Artist use it. Although it would be hate to ensure that it looks right and in time with the music I want to use my friend Ryan as one of the singers within the video. As he also likes Jamie T I believe he can make the lip syncing look believable as he knows the pitch and speed of the song therefore will stay in time. Another video were lip syncing is used is in Swim Deep's 'King City.' Direct Address is used when filing this video while lip syncing so it is vital that the syncing is perfectly timed other wise it will not look realistic.            If You Got The Money

Image result for jamie t nme]As I also have to have an accompanying magazine front cover to go with the video I have been read a popular 'Indie Pop' magazine called 'NME.' This is a particularly issue featuring the artist 'Jamie T' As we can see a lot of stereotypical codes and conventions are used such as:

  • Masthead
  • Cover Line
  • Screamer
  • Direct Address
  • Puff
  • Pug
  • Bar-code
  • Web Link
To ensure that the magazine looks like it has been done professionally I will include all these techniques to captue the genre though the magazine just like NME have done here.

This is a link to my survey monkey questionnaire.
I have asked what the public would want to see within the music video and used 5 questions which would benefit my organisation when it comes to filming. These 5 questions are:

  • What would you expect to see in a stereotypical Indie Pop music Video?
  • On a scale of 1-5 whats do you think is the most important feature of a music video?
  • What is the average age range for the indie music genre?
  • What is more important? The quality or the quantity?
  • Would you expect to see a whole band lip syncing in a music video?

I have then posted this link to my social media account on Twitter to get peoples opinions.

This is an example for a artist similar to Jamie T within the genre Indie Pop. As you can see from these photos the artist RATBOY And Jamie T have a very similar style therefore I will use his videos to be very heavily inspired. Personally, I believe they have both captured the indie genre very well within these style therefore for the lip syncing part of my video I will show my artist in:

  • Skinny Black Jeans

Drafting and Planning

I have been quite set on creating a music video based on the song Kate Nash-Foundations but recently I have been looking into others songs especially by an artist called Jamie T. This is because of the message behind Foundations. It is stereotypical break up song and I wanted to create a video with a upbeat message. As we can see from this example of someone elses A2 work featuring this Kate Nash song it has a very clear theme of relationships. A song which I am very interested in creating a video for is Emily's Heart by Jamie T. Although it has a very similar style and pace to Foundations I am hoping to explore different themes such as childhood and innocence.

Drafting and Planning

As we are only in the early stages of the overall project I want to ensure that my end piece is professional and is up to the best standard possible which means being prepared. I have been lookin into possible locations where I could film my video. As previously mentioned I am hoping to film on a beach therefore I was thinking of a place called Clevedon. I believe it captures the indie conventions because of its quiet, peaceful feeling. As shown in this video, it is also Filmed on a beach. Very similar therefore meaning I would be heavily inspired by the original.     Emilys Heart

Initial Ideas
These are my first plans and ideas for a song by Jamie T called Emily's Heart in which I am hoping to create a successful and professional music video for. I am going to be heavily inspired by both videos shown (Original and A2 Cover.) I am going to feature a child on a beach and he is going to put a message in a bottle and send into the sea. It will contains his mothers ashes. I am then going to use a variety of shots showing the child and mother at their favourite places to visit and the mother will slowly fade away out of the shots showing that she is deceased. I am going to do this as it is a very sad song and this video would run parallel to the lyrics. As the picture shows Jamie T is an indie artist but this video will not follow the stereotypical Inide music video codes and conventions.               .Emilys Heart Original.

Genre Crossovers

As previously mentioned the main genre on which I was focus sing on for my project was 'Indie Pop.' I have been looking into this genre a lot and researching bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and Blur to ensure that I capture the genre correctly in the project. I have also  been looking as Genre Crossovers. One of the biggest example of this is when Jay Z did a collaboration with Linkin Park for a song called Numb/Encore. Stereotypically Jay Z is a rapper and Linkin Park are Rock but they came together to portray both genres using tune, lyrics and the music video. As I have also been looking in the 'Grime' genre I wanted to some how show how 2 genres can come together and work well.

Jay Z and Linkin Park

Along with Kate Nash who would represent the 'Indie Pop' genre I have been looking into a Grime MC called 'Skepta.' Although grime music is stereotypically very heavy/fast breaths I believe if I somehow portrayed the 'calm before the storm' idea the music video would work.

Research Into Similar Products- Example Of Music Video

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VtyObAvzQ7o

This is an ideal example of what I want my overall music video to turn out like. It features a song by the Arctic Monkeys called 'Do I Wanna Know.' This is a very stereotypical Indie Song and he has captured the genre in many different ways throughout.

Clothing
In this video there is a boy featured wearing a leather jackets. This is a very normal piece of clothing for someone in the indie genre to wear
Skinny jeans are also featured which once again is very stereotypical items.
Standard Black Converse are also shown throughout which has connotations of the Indie Genre.
From 1.02 to 1.08 leather boots are also shown on the female character.

Lip Syncing-
As in most Indie Music Videos Lip Syncing is featured dramatically throughout. It makes a connection with the audience and also in terms of a A2 Music Video it makes it look realistic, believable and professional when do right. I hope to feature a lot of lip syncing throughout my video.

This is an example of a band called Peace using lip syncing frequently throughout their music video

This is a photo of Arctic Monkeys Lead Singer Alex Turner featuring some of the clothing mentioned in my previous paragraph.

A2 Preliminary Task

This is a task we completed to ensure that when making my final project I am confident with both the filming and editing process.

Firstly for the filming process we used 3 shots which were:

  • Shot Reverse Shot
  • Panning
  • Tracking

To ensure that the filming look both professional and realistic we needed to stick to the 180 degree rule so that the audience don't get disorientated when watching. Another rule we had to stick to was match on action. This meant that the cuts had to be slick and flow well therefore I used a variety of cross fades to help with this. My end goal was to produce a short film showing a variety of skills like, A wide range of Camera Shots and Angles and Effective use Continuity Editing and I believe I have achieved this in this film shown above. The overall task has made me feel more confident in all the stages of making a film/music video using the appropriate software and angles.

Drafting and Planning

Image result for kate nash magazine cover nmeThis is an example of a magazine cover featuring the artist who's song i am using for my music video. I have to create a magazine cover of my artist and I think i will be inspired by this due to the fact I believe she has portrayed the Indie Pop genre very well. The Medium Close Up used on this magazine gives a feeling that she doesn't care and is quite rebellious which we can also see from the violent look on her face. I want to portray this stereotypical 'indie rebel' in the magazine and the video and will do this by using generic codes and conventions.
